Sanitary
Customs in countries differ, and sanitation on Belarus is not like the UK.
Show the children how the toilet works, and check that they have understood. Pipes in Belarus cannot cope with toilet paper, so you may need to remonstrate that in the UK paper goes down the toilet and not in the bin. (It may be a good idea to check the bin for a few days.)
Remember to be prepared if your visitor is a teenage girl – sanitary towels are not readily available in Belarus, therefore, a pack of sanitary towels in their drawer will be very welcome. To avoid embarrassment, provide bags for their disposal and show them where you want them put. You may need to check during the visit if more supplies are needed, and that your child has overcome their natural shyness and used the bin that you have provided for that purpose.
Our young visitors may not change their clothes as frequently as we do in the UK. Encourage them to change their clothes regularly, especially underwear, and show them where to place their dirty linen for laundering. |
