26 Years On - Paper Lantern Release - Southsea Castle - 27th April 2012

On the 26th April 2012 it was the 26 Anniversary of the Chernobyl Disaster, as part of the European Action week we arranged an Awareness event on Southsea Castle Field on the eve of the anniversary.

Across Europe there is a series of Candle light events to raise awareness of the long term effects of the Chernobyl Disaster. We would like you to please join us on the field adjacent to Southsea Castle.

The Evening was our rearranged Lantern release. Our Local Council have various processes that have to be completed with a 29 page events request form as well as a risk assessment, which had to be completed twice as we had to change the day, but PCC were very supportive. We also had to notify the Coast Guard to ensure we were covered.

We had a quantity of 50 lanterns to release, and we had arranged to meet on the Southsea Castle field, where we were joined by over 50 members of our Link, Committee, Supporters and Friends as well as members of the public.

Photos of the visit can be found on our Gallery.

We do understand that some people may not be able to attend, if this is the case and you would like us to release a Lantern for you we are asking you to donate either on our Just Giving site or to donate by Text.
