Welcome to the website for the Bristol Link of the Chernobyl Children’s Life Line.

We are part of a national charity founded in 1992 by Victor Mizzi M.B.E. Since then over 140 "Links" have been established throughout the United Kingdom, raising money to support the children of Belarus, whose lives will be forever affected by the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986. If we are not your local link Summer_2009_visit_from_Ossipovichi.jpg please use the search facilities on the right hand side of this page to find the link nearest you and get in touch with them. They will be pleased to hear from you, and happy to help.

* We urgently need host families for children visiting our area from 11th July to 8th August 2010 that could offer a home to two children from Belarus, for either two, or four weeks. If you would like more information please get in touch.

Our work is focused on the following core activities:

Raising the funds to bring eighteen children to Bristol each year for four weeks of fresh air, uncontaminated food, fun, love and attention as well as dental and eye check ups. They come from the town of Osipovichi and surrounding villages, (including Protachavici - see below). Nationally around 3,000 children will be brought over by the charity’s links.

Supporting a school in Protachavici where the children help to grow the vegetables for the canteen and collect scrap metal to sell for learning resources. They have a soak-away toilet in the same field as the well used for drawing water used for drinking and cooking.

Funding respite camps in Belarus for the children (and their families) who are too ill to travel. These facilities also have specialist medical resources and nursing.

Imagine: Living the rest of your life in a radioactive polluted environment. There is no escape. Money cannot buy protection. The World Health organisation (W.H.O.) state that 500,000 children in Belarus are at risk.

Imagine: Eating contaminated food that may harm you, but what else can you do?

Imagine: Coming to the UK and eating fresh food and breathing fresh air and going home with your imune system recharged.

Imagine: Knowing that people DO care.
